Reduir el seu impacte ambiental s&#8217;ha convertit en un repte clau per a aconseguir la neutralitat clim\u00e0tica en 2050. <\/p>\n\n<p>En aquest context, els <strong>biocombustibles <\/strong>apareixen com una de les alternatives m\u00e9s immediates i viables per a descarbonitzar el sector, especialment en \u00e0rees on l&#8217;electrificaci\u00f3 resulta m\u00e9s complexa, com el transport pesat per carretera, mar\u00edtim o aeri.<\/p>\n\n<p>En aquest nou article parlarem sobre els biocombustibles, els diferents tipus que hi ha, les seves limitacions i el paper que exerceixen en plena \u00e8poca de transici\u00f3 energ\u00e8tica.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qu\u00e8 s\u00f3n els biocombustibles?<\/h2>\n\n<p>Els <a href=\"https:\/\/energy.ec.europa.eu\/topics\/renewable-energy\/bioenergy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">biocombustibles <\/a><strong>s\u00f3n combustibles l\u00edquids o gasosos produ\u00efts a partir de mat\u00e8ria org\u00e0nica renovable<\/strong>, tamb\u00e9 coneguda com a biomassa. Poden provenir de cultius energ\u00e8tics (blat de moro, canya de sucre, colza), residus agr\u00edcoles, olis usats, grasses animals o fins i tot algues. <\/p>\n\n<p>La caracter\u00edstica clau que els diferencia dels combustibles f\u00f2ssils \u00e9s que el carboni que alliberen durant la combusti\u00f3 procedeix de fonts recentment capturades de l&#8217;atmosfera per les plantes en el seu proc\u00e9s de fotos\u00edntesi. D&#8217;aquesta manera, es considera que les emissions netes de CO\u2082 s\u00f3n menors, encara que no completament nul\u00b7les, ja que influeixen altres factors com el cultiu, la transformaci\u00f3 i el transport. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Principals tipus de biocombustibles<\/h2>\n\n<p>Existeixen diferents classificacions segons el seu origen i grau de desenvolupament tecnol\u00f2gic:<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>1. Biocombustibles de primera generaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>S\u00f3n els m\u00e9s estesos actualment i s&#8217;elaboren a partir de cultius alimentaris:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bioetanol<\/strong>: produ\u00eft principalment a partir de canya de sucre, blat de moro o blat. S&#8217;utilitza barrejat amb gasolina en diferents percentatges (E5, E10, E85). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Biodi\u00e8sel<\/strong>: fabricat amb olis vegetals com a colza, soia o palma, a m\u00e9s d&#8217;olis de cuina usats. Es barreja amb gasoil convencional (B7, B10, B20). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><em>La seva gran limitaci\u00f3 \u00e9s la <strong>compet\u00e8ncia amb la producci\u00f3 d&#8217;aliments <\/strong>i l&#8217;impacte ambiental de monocultius intensius.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>2. Biocombustibles de segona generaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>S&#8217;obtenen de residus agr\u00edcoles, forestals o industrials, aix\u00ed com d&#8217;olis i greixos no aptes per a consum. S\u00f3n m\u00e9s sostenibles perqu\u00e8 no competeixen directament amb la cadena aliment\u00e0ria. <\/p>\n\n<p>Per exemple, el <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/nievesenergia.com\/ca\/blog\/sostenibilitat\/que-es-el-hvo-i-per-a-que-serveix-el-possible-combustible-per-al-futur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil)<\/a><\/strong>, un <strong>di\u00e8sel renovable<\/strong> que ja es distribueix en estacions de servei d&#8217;Espanya i Europa (com en <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x12a49f5003ab7971:0xe8ec3ae1666c9639?sa=X&amp;ved=1t:8290&amp;ictx=111\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">l&#8217;Estaci\u00f3 de Servei Nieves de Zona Franca<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>a Barcelona<\/strong>), compatible amb motors actuals.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>3. Biocombustibles de tercera generaci\u00f3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Produ\u00efts a partir de <strong>microalgues <\/strong>o altres fonts de biomassa aqu\u00e0tica. Presenten un enorme potencial per la seva alta productivitat i sota \u00fas de s\u00f2ls agr\u00edcoles, si b\u00e9 encara estan en fase de desenvolupament i amb costos elevats. <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>4. Biocombustibles avan\u00e7ats<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Inclouen combustibles sint\u00e8tics i tecnologies com el bioqueroseno per a aviaci\u00f3. Estan cridats a jugar un paper decisiu en sectors dif\u00edcils d&#8217;electrificar, com l&#8217;aeri o mar\u00edtim. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avantatges dels biocombustibles<\/h2>\n\n<p>Abans d&#8217;entrar detalladament, conv\u00e9 destacar que els biocombustibles <strong>no sols representen una opci\u00f3 m\u00e9s neta<\/strong> enfront dels combustibles f\u00f2ssils, sin\u00f3 que tamb\u00e9 <strong>aporten beneficis addicionals de car\u00e0cter econ\u00f2mic, social i estrat\u00e8gic<\/strong>. El seu desenvolupament i \u00fas permeten avan\u00e7ar en la transici\u00f3 energ\u00e8tica d&#8217;una manera equilibrada, ja que aprofiten recursos disponibles, <strong>fomenten la innovaci\u00f3 tecnol\u00f2gica i generen noves oportunitats en diferents sectors.<\/strong> Entre els seus principals avantatges es troben:  <\/p>\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reducci\u00f3 d&#8217;emissions<br\/>Segons l&#8217;Ag\u00e8ncia Internacional d&#8217;Energia Renovable (IRENA), els biocombustibles avan\u00e7ats poden reduir fins a un 80% les emissions de CO\u2082 respecte als f\u00f2ssils.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Compatibilitat amb infraestructures existents<\/strong><br\/>Es poden barrejar amb gasolina i gasoil, aprofitant la xarxa actual de distribuci\u00f3 i prove\u00efment de carburant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diversificaci\u00f3 energ\u00e8tica<\/strong><br\/>Disminueixen la depend\u00e8ncia del petroli importat i afavoreixen la seguretat energ\u00e8tica en pa\u00efsos consumidors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impuls a l&#8217;economia rural<\/strong><br\/>El cultiu de biomassa i l&#8217;aprofitament de residus generen ocupaci\u00f3 en \u00e0rees rurals i sectors agr\u00edcoles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reptes i limitacions dels biocombustibles<\/h2>\n\n<p>Malgrat els beneficis que aporten, els biocombustibles no estan exempts de <strong>desafiaments ambientals, econ\u00f2mics i socials<\/strong> que condicionen el seu desenvolupament i el seu paper en la transici\u00f3 energ\u00e8tica. Aquests aspectes han de tenir-se en compte per a assegurar que el seu \u00fas sigui realment sostenible: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>\u00das de terres agr\u00edcoles<\/strong><br\/>Els biocombustibles de primera generaci\u00f3, elaborats a partir de cultius com a blat de moro, soia o canya de sucre, generen debat perqu\u00e8 requereixen grans extensions de terra f\u00e8rtil (l&#8217;efecte conegut com \u201cf<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Food_vs._fuel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ood vs fuel<\/a>\u201d). Aix\u00f2 pot despla\u00e7ar cultius destinats a l&#8217;alimentaci\u00f3 humana o animal, contribuint a la pujada dels preus dels aliments i a una major pressi\u00f3 sobre els ecosistemes naturals. En alguns casos, l&#8217;expansi\u00f3 de monocultius destinats a biocombustibles ha estat associada a processos de desforestaci\u00f3 i p\u00e8rdua de biodiversitat.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Balan\u00e7 real d&#8217;emissions<\/strong><br\/>Encara que en teoria <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/reports\/carbon-accounting-for-sustainable-biofuels\/executive-summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">els biocombustibles emeten menys CO\u2082<\/a> que els f\u00f2ssils, \u00e9s necessari considerar el cicle de vida complet del producte. La producci\u00f3 de fertilitzants i pesticides, el consum d&#8217;aigua, la maquin\u00e0ria agr\u00edcola, el transport i la transformaci\u00f3 industrial poden reduir i fins i tot anul\u00b7lar els beneficis clim\u00e0tics si no es gestionen amb criteris de sostenibilitat. Per aix\u00f2, organismes com la Comissi\u00f3 Europea nom\u00e9s consideren renovables aquells biocombustibles que compleixen criteris estrictes d&#8217;estalvi d&#8217;emissions enfront del gasoil o la gasolina convencionals.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Costos de producci\u00f3<\/strong><br\/>Els biocombustibles avan\u00e7ats (a partir de residus) i de tercera generaci\u00f3 (microalgues) presenten un gran potencial, per\u00f2 la <strong>seva fabricaci\u00f3 continua sent m\u00e9s costosa<\/strong> que la dels combustibles f\u00f2ssils. Aix\u00f2 limita la seva competitivitat en el mercat i fa que, en molts casos, depenguin d&#8217;incentius o pol\u00edtiques p\u00fabliques per a ser rendibles. La inversi\u00f3 en innovaci\u00f3 tecnol\u00f2gica i economies d&#8217;escala ser\u00e0 clau per a abaratir els seus costos en els pr\u00f2xims anys.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Disponibilitat limitada de mat\u00e8ries primeres<\/strong><br\/>L&#8217;aprofitament de residus agr\u00edcoles, forestals o olis usats resulta m\u00e9s sostenible que l&#8217;\u00fas de cultius energ\u00e8tics, per\u00f2 la<a href=\"https:\/\/theicct.org\/publication\/low-risk-biomass-feedstocks-eu-refueleu-aug24\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> quantitat d&#8217;aquestes mat\u00e8ries \u00e9s limitada <\/a>i no pot cobrir per si sola l&#8217;enorme demanda del transport mundial. Aix\u00f2 significa que els biocombustibles hauran d&#8217;integrar-se amb altres solucions, com l&#8217;electrificaci\u00f3 i l&#8217;hidrogen renovable, dins d&#8217;una estrat\u00e8gia de descarbonitzaci\u00f3 diversificada. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Els biocombustibles s\u00f3n una <strong>pe\u00e7a valuosa per\u00f2 no \u00fanica<\/strong> en el trencaclosques de la transici\u00f3 energ\u00e8tica. El seu \u00e8xit dependr\u00e0 de la capacitat de superar aquests reptes mitjan\u00e7ant innovaci\u00f3 tecnol\u00f2gica, pol\u00edtiques reguladores adequades i un model de producci\u00f3 que prioritzi la sostenibilitat ambiental i social.
